Welcome to the Summer Camp Leadership blog. For those of us who lead summer camps, making a positive difference in the lives of young people is our passion. Turning that passion into a reality, however, takes more than the ability to lead songs, teach archery or plan craft projects. Creating camp experiences that truly transform lives takes leadership. Leadership that creates a vision for the future, leadership that inspires and engages others, leadership that remains focused and stays the course. My hope is through this blog you'll find ideas, inspiration and tools to help you be a great summer camp leader.

Don't Wait to Train Leaders
Jack Zenger, the founder of a highly respected leadership development company, writes on Harvard Business Review's blog that most organizations wait too long to begin training leaders. He says "Practicing anything mildly important without training is inadvisable. The fact that so many of your managers are practicing leadership without training should alarm you." He lists three reasons why...
1. Practicing without training ingrains bad habits.
2. Practice makes perfect only if done correctly.
3. Your young supervisors are practicing on the job whether you've trained them or not.
