In the 1990's the military began using the acronym VUCA to describe the volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity of situations. Increasing the business world has embraced VUCA to describe the environment they find themselves in today. Organizations are using the VUCA concept as a tool in thinking about strategic planning and leadership.
Volatility - The rapid speed of change.
Uncertainty - The lack of predictability and prospects for surprise.
Complexity - The increasingly multifaceted nature of issues.
Ambiguity - The lack of clarity what events mean.
Think about the environments camps operate in today. Where do we see VUCA? How can we identify and define the VUCA that exists in our environment? How can we adapt how we operate to effectively deal with the VUCA that we face?
Welcome to the Summer Camp Leadership blog. For those of us who lead summer camps, making a positive difference in the lives of young people is our passion. Turning that passion into a reality, however, takes more than the ability to lead songs, teach archery or plan craft projects. Creating camp experiences that truly transform lives takes leadership. Leadership that creates a vision for the future, leadership that inspires and engages others, leadership that remains focused and stays the course. My hope is through this blog you'll find ideas, inspiration and tools to help you be a great summer camp leader.
